Along the AT in the White Mountains

This year Meg and I were able to escape for a week to go backpacking in the White Mountains. Two years ago when we did a section in Massachusetts and Vermont, we read that the section between Franconia Notch to Pinkham Notch in NH is often considered the prettiest section of the entire Appalachian Trail, so we decided to make it our next trip.

It took awhile to get the time together but on June 16th we found ourselves on a Greyhound headed from Binghamton towards Lincoln, NH, the closest town to Franconia Notch. Franconia Notch is well known in New England for being the site of the Old Man in the Mountain until the Old Man finally fell down the mountain back in 2003. Of course, with Greyhound we had not a direct bus but had to take the scenic route via New York’s Port Authority and Boston’s South Station.
