From August 1994 to May 1995 I worked my way up to sous chef at Cobdens Hotel in Capel Curig, North Wales. Cobdens was a small hotel nestled in the hills of North Wales near Mt. Snowdon. I stumbled across a hand-written advert in the BUNAC office in London, and a part of me thought about the last hand-written advert I had answered at the Pike Place hostel in Seattle. Again, the gamble paid off. I had a ball for nine months hiking in the surrounding hills, climbing on the indoor climbing wall at the climbing center, and getting to know the locals. I also managed to save enough of my weekly pay packets to go to Octoberfest, explore the UK, and do the Eurail thing in the spring.
